Stephanie Correia (BFA Honours, ADAPT, DMA, IADA)
Artistic Director

Stephanie has been studying dance for 25 years, and is a graduate of York University with an Honours BFA Double Major in Dance and Kinesiology & Health Science. Stephanie is also a certified member of Dance Masters of America Chapter #38(DMA), and the International Academy of Dance Adjudicators (IADA), as well as a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS). Stephanie has also completed the 3rd and final year of the ADAPT Teacher Training Certification course, taught by the well known Brian Foley and Faye Foley, earning her full teaching credentials in jazz and tap. As a Dance Adjudicator, Stephanie has been invited to travel all over Canada to various Competitions including, Dancefest, Luv 2 Dance, Rising Star at the CNE, Millenium Dance Festival and CDTA. Stephanie was also invited to teach fellow dance educators “Dance for 3-6 year olds” at the PAEC Summer Teachers Workshop.

Stephanie was trained at Durham Dance Centre in Pickering, Ontario as well as the National Ballet School of Canada, where she was a member of the Junior Associate Program. She has studied Jazz (ADAPT, BATD) ,Tap (ADAPT, BATD), Ballet (RAD, Cecchetti, BATD), Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern (Cunningham, Graham, Limone) and Pointe. Throughout her training, Stephanie had the opportunity to compete in many cities throughout Canada and the United States, including Florida and Las Vegas, where she and her teammates won many awards. She has also completed many exams with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). Stephanie also had the opportunity to continue performing when she was a member of the York University Dance Team while attending York University. Now as a teacher and choreographer Stephanie’s students have won numerous awards, including Overall Production at Dance Dance Canada in 2006.

Stephanie is also a founding member and Past-President of “Healthy Dancer Canada”, a Canadian organization that promotes communication between dance and medical professionals, and educates dance instructors on safe dance training practices. www.healthydancercanada.org.

Stephanie has also taught dance at Clearmeadow Public School, Bogart Public School Ecole Catholique Saint-Jean, Kettlby Public School, and Armitage Village Public School.

By combining her formal education at York University with her 25 years of practical education, Stephanie hopes to bridge the gap between education and the dance studio setting. Having to overcome a serious injury herself, Stephanie dedicated much of her University career to becoming educated on injuries specific to dancers, and ways to prevent them. Stephanie is very passionate about dance, and truly enjoys her job as a dance educator!

 

Shauna Thompson (ADAPT, IADA)
Assistant Director


Shauna began grooming her passion for dance at the age of 3 at Debra-Lynne School of Dance and later on transferred to Durham Dance Centre at the age of 10.

For over 15 years she studied Tap, Jazz, Ballet (RAD, Cecchetti and Russian), Pointe, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Acrobatics. She has competed throughout Canada and the United States including the American Dance Awards National finals in Las Vegas and Boston.

Her passion for instructing young dancers started at the age of 14 when she began assisting classes. She was later hired as a full-time teacher at the age of 18 in the disciplines of Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, and Acrobatics. To gain more knowledge and experience, she attended and successfully completed the 3 year A.D.A.P.T (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) certification program, 2 year Performance Dance program at George Brown College, and received her Level 1 and Level 2 in acrobatics through the Dance Educators of Canada Forum for Acrobatic Dance. Shauna is constantly attending workshops and courses to update her education in dance.

In the last eight years as a teacher and choreographer, students that she has had the honor of working with have won numerous awards including; Young dancer of the year, choreography awards and many overalls in groups, duets, trios, and solos. Throughout her many hard working years as a teacher/choreographer Shauna is now proud to say she is the Assistant Artistic Director of Vision Dance Academy in Newmarket, working with long time friend and Director Stephanie Correia.

Shauna takes great pride in creating a positive and motivating learning experience. She is very enthusiastic towards sharing her passion for dance with all the young dancers she has the privilege of working with and strongly encourages them to set goals and dream big.


Gina Kim (BFA Honours, A.I.S.T.D. (Cecc,ND) NBS TTP Dip, IADA )
Ballet Director

Born in Edmonton Alberta, Gina Kim moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario and started her dancing career at the age of six under the watchful eyes of The Port Colborne Dance Academy, now formally known as Dance Expressions. Ms. Kim has diverse training in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, National dance and Korean traditional folk dance. Ms. Kim received Honors in numerous C.D.T.A tap and jazz exams, Advanced Cecchetti ballet exams, Advanced RAD ballet exams and Advanced I.S.T.D National dance exams. 

Ms. Kim was a competitive dancer since the age of six, receiving several awards and scholarships at local, national and various competitions across North America. After twelve years of competing, Ms. Kim is now a certified adjudicator in association with I.A.D.A. Greater accomplished credentials include: Teaching Diploma and certificate from Canada's National Ballet School, Associates in The Cecchetti Society of Canada, Royal Academy of Dance, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, and Canadian Dance Teachers Association.

Ms. Kim attended master classes and workshops in Toronto, Buffalo, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Japan, Korea and Winnipeg. Her performing experience includes Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with Quinte Ballet School, The Nutcracker and Les Syphides with The National Ballet School, The Beach Boys, Guys N’ Dolls, Bye-Bye Birdie, Grease, Chicago and Westside Story. After graduating with her BFA Honors in Dance from York University, Ms. Kim furthered her education at Canada’s National Ballet School, and joined the teaching staff in the Associates Program in 2006.

Ms. Kim was honoured to join Vision Dance Academy and is ecstatic to continue working with the talented staff and students.

 



Lesley Scott, ADAPT

Lesley is a native of Toronto, and has been dancing since the age of three. She has studied various forms of dance and has been trained by many well known choreographers throughout Canada and the United States. Lesley started her professional career dancing with the Toronto Raptors Dance Pak, followed by Toronto's professional Lacrosse team, The Toronto Rock. She then went on to perform two contracts aboard Celebrity Cruiselines. Lesley has won numerious awards over the years such as top mark soloist, Runner-Up at American Dance Awards and C.D.M.A dance pageants. Lesley is also a two-time finalist at the C.N.E's Rising Star Competition. Lesley is a fully qualified teacher in the A.D.A.P.T. syllabus whose specialties include Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. Her recent work has won many accolades including a Top Choreography Award at American Dance Awards. Now back in Toronto, Lesley is thrilled to pursue her teaching career.



Angela Mahoney

Angela has been dancing since she was old enough to stand on two feet. Following many years of training in ballet, modern, lyrical, musical theatre, jazz and hip hop in New Brunswick, Angela held onto her passion for dance as part of the Saint Mary’s University Dance Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In 2006, Angela moved to Toronto to continue training and to follow her dreams of becoming a successful dancer and teacher. Since then, Angela has had the opportunity to perform in various shows such as The Bazaar, DISCO, Moto Amore, and the NHL Pro-AM Gala. She was also a spotlight dancer on BPM TV’s “Get Up and Dance!”. Angela recently appeared as the lead girl in Neverest's music video "About Us" as well as JD Era's "Fame and Fortune". Other credits include Brian Notice, Kardinal Offishall and Christian Ty.

Angela, alongside Danny Davalos, created “The Motion Dance Project”; a project designed to inspire and motivate children, teens and adults through dancing in schools, childcare centers, and studios. Angela and Danny have had the opportunity to travel all across Canada teaching workshops as part of this project.

Angela has also established her own confidence-building class for women only, entitled “Alter Ego”; a class for women to feel sexy, let loose, have fun and break a sweat all at the same time! Along with Alter Ego, Angela also teaches Burlesque, Hip Hop and Bollywood across the GTA.

In 2010, Angela was chosen as one of the top 6 among hundreds to perform with Katy Perry at the MuchMusic Video Awards and has also choreographed for artists such as Kelly Anthony and Patrick Christopher. Currently, Angela is filming her own instructional dance DVD. She continues to grow as a dancer and teaches workshops and classes in Toronto and throughout Ontario.

Lindsay Daniels
B. Kin (Honours), B.Ed., ADAPT , OCT
Dance Educator, Adjudicator, Choreographer

Lindsay Daniels is a sought after choreographer, instructor, adjudicator and dance educator. She is currently on staff with the Durham District School Board as a Dance Education Specialist, leading workshops and seminars for elementary school teachers on dance pedagogy and assessment and is a member of the Durham District School Board’s Elementary Arts Curriculum Review Committee. She is the head of dance at Sinclair Secondary School, an award and scholarship winning high school dance program in Whitby, ON.

Miss Daniels’ students have gone onto post secondary dance programs, been featured on “So You Think You Can Dance Canada”, professional dance careers and have become dance instructors themselves. Her current students continue a tradition of excellence and high standards, winning overall titles, scholarships and the highest adjudication in competitions. She is known for her innovative and stylized choreography as well as her high energy, technical and enthusiastic approach to dance education.

Miss Daniels trained in Ontario, attending workshops at The National Ballet of Canada, completing a dance placement at Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts (College Division), and obtained her honours degree in Kinesiology at McMaster University. In 2006, Miss Daniels completed her Bachelor of Education at York University and her ADAPT teaching qualifications lead by Brian and Faye Foley in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan.

Miss Daniels is also an Ambassador for Lululemon Athletica (Oshawa location), is a freelance choreographer in the GTA and Calgary, leads workshops at McMaster University, and has recently choreographed for the Olympic Torch Run presentation in Ontario.

Miss Daniels loves her position as a dance educator and strives to instill dedication, passion and a strong work ethic in her students.



Alana Della Mora, BFA Honours, A.I.S.T.D. (Cecc,ND) NBS TTP Dip

Dancing professionally for seven years, Alana attended The National Ballet School’s Full Time Program. She continued her studies and went on to graduate from The Quinte Ballet School as well as study with The National Ballet of Cuba. Alana graduated from a five year joint program with York University and The National Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program in which she received her Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts and teaching diploma. Alana is a certified Cecchetti ballet instructor having received her Associate diploma in both Cecchetti and National Dance. Outside of the studio, Alana is a business owner of a company called Fairytale Parties. The company caters to young children’s birthday parties by hosting themed events.



Taylor Roper

Taylor is a professional performer who has been dancing since the age of six. He is highly trained in jazz, tap, contemporary, ballet, acrobatics and hip hop. He also studied in the music theatre program at Wexford Collegiate Institute for the Arts. He has worked for some of the industry's leading entertainment corporations including Royal Caribbean Cruise lines and Tokyo Disneyland. He also had the amazing opportunity of training and teaching workshops in Belgium this past year. As a competitive dancer, Taylor has captured numerous titles including Mr. Dance and Teen Mr. Dance of Canada ch.38, Dancer of the Year for American Dance Awards and was the Solo Dance Video winner for the SYTYCDC chum Fm competition. He was also the highest scoring male soloist for can dance in 2007 and had the opportunity to travel and perform in Spain. He has been a dance instructor at many studios and high schools over the years.
