"Vision Dance Academy was founded on a passion. A passion to promote and encourage healthy dance training practices".
Owner, Stephanie Correia, began dancing at the age of four. At the age of fourteen, she sublaxed her hip on stage during a dance performance. "It was a combination of a growth spurt, dancing on poor flooring at the studio I trained at, and a dance teacher that did not take my aches and pains seriously". After sustaining this injury, Stephanie was unable to dance for two years. During this difficult time, it became very clear to Stephanie that her passion in life was to educate dancers in a healthy way. A way that would allow them to dance for the rest of their lives, not just a few years.
Stephanie then went on to study Dance and Kinesiology in University. "I focused every project and essay on something related to dancer's health. I had a very clear Vision of where I was going."
In 2007, Stephanie graduated from University and founded Vision Dance Academy. The name "Vision" made sense, because that is what it was (and still is)...a Vision. "We opened our doors that year with a modest 60 students. I taught every class, returned every email and phone call, and spent many late nights at the studio. I loved every second of it! Now, 10 years later, we have expanded our facility, and grown immensely in numbers. Continuing to share the love of dance!"
In 2008 Stephanie became a founding member of Healthy Dancer Canada (www.healthydancercanada.org). A Canada wide network of passionate dancers, dance educators, and medical practitioners with the goal of improving dancers health.
At Vision Dance Academy, we continue to be passionate about sharing the love of Dance!
